I can’t swim yet!

Howdy! Great Danes are not known for being water dogs, but I like the water. Most of the time. I’m trying to figure out how to swim.

While we were home in Louisville, KY waiting for the boat, Momma and Poppa took me to YMCA’s Calypso Cove annual Dog swim on my Birthday!  It was so much fun and there were so many dogs!! My cousin, Ellie, was there and she brought me a giant Lambie … so sweet! Elie is a good swimmer. She runs and jumps in all by herself. I’m still too afraid to do that so poppa just held me. I swam a few times in the deep end of the pool with Poppa, but it was much easier to walk on my back legs or sink and hop. It was a good Birthday!

jump? don’t think so!
poppa, hold me!

The second time I tried to swim was when we went to visit Grandpa Phil and Grandma Sally. They live on Lake Erie and we went to East Harbor State Park. It was a little bit of a hike to get to the beach but there was a nice wide trail for us to follow. The beach itself wasn’t very big, but it had shade and it was clean. I was able to touch with my feet so didn’t really see the need to swim.

Smyrna Dunes – whoa! didn’t see that wave

The third time I tried to swim was at Smyrna Dunes in Ponce Inlet I didn’t go out too far though so maybe this shouldn’t count. The water was a little cold but it was fun to splash and play. There was a small boat selling hot dogs (food truck boat?) that beached itself near the shore. I wasn’t allowed to have a hot dog, but they had puppy ice cream! Wow! that was so good! especially after playing all morning.

It’s always a good idea to wear a life jacket when around water, but I really need one. Actually, I have two. I wear the lighter one just in case, and the bigger one when the boat is moving. I also have a harness just in case. Momma and Poppa sure do love me and want to keep me safe!

mmm… ice cream

Lots of love,
